Willow Creek Plantation Engagement
Willow Creek Plantation Engagement session with Ashley & Joe in Landrum, SC.
This was the first time I ever did an engagement session at a wedding venue that I will also be shooting later this year. Since I am not from the area, I had no idea where to shoot the engagement session. So I suggested we shoot at the venue where you’re getting married if they are allowed.
Luckily, Ashley and Joe were cool with that, and we just rolled with it. Willow Creek Plantation is a wedding venue located in Landrum, SC. And it’s a beautiful place. The venue is vast, with various spots that you can use to be creative.
Joe was sending me images via Facebook messenger showing some details of the venue that is not really on google maps or the website, so this got me thinking of various areas to shoot their engagement.
I got to the Willow Creek Plantation a bit early then Ashely & Joe, they got stuck in traffic, so it gave me enough time to check out the locations while waiting on them. When Ashley & Joe arrived, I was pleased to find out that they were very laid back and down to earth.
This will make the engagement session fun and won’t feel awkward about it. It’s already tough enough to shoot weddings without knowing who your couples are (3rd party weddings). This is a real ice breaker, now we both are relaxed and can enjoy both the engagement session and the wedding later this year.
Never run out of locations at Willow Creek Plantation
We started shooting the engagement at Willow Creek Planation’s entrance and work our way around the place at various spots. I wanted to get some shots on the white bridge, so we started there. Most of the images were shot in natural light, so it was easy to move around.
The big red barn at willow creek is a must get shot. I had to include the barn somehow, so I made them stand near the white bridge’s edge with the barn in the background. Getting some wide and close up shots of them just mingling and go their business while I was hiding in the bush like a ninja spy or something.
We started to head up the back of the venue, where I saw a homemade swing, if that’s what it is even called. I had to get, as it was somewhat cute. I asked Joe to swing her a little bit so we can get some action in the shot and not make it look like it was stage or anything.
After a few minutes, we started to head back to the front because I ran out of ideas. I told them to walk ahead of me and pretend I am not even here. Do your thing, things you would normally do as if you were alone. They did that quite well. Usually, it’s like “what do we do” 😛
And that is about it for this engagement session. Stay tuned for Ashley & Joe’s wedding as I will also be shooting that at Willow Creek Plantation.
