We enjoyed covering Sydney and Michael’s wedding here, and we had a fantastic time creating beautiful images to showcase their wedding day.

Getting Ready at the Hotel

We started off capturing a few getting ready shots at the hotel. I walked around the hotel to see if I can find any cool spots for a group shot. Only found one place to do a posed shot, but not enough space for some casual images. When shooting a big group, it’s always cool to get them to pose like they are in a Vogue Magazine.

I told Michael that the rest of the shots we’ll do at the venue because I am not liking the hotel surrounding are for the Groom and groomsmen’s casual walking photos.

Finishing up The Groom's Portraits at The Carl House

This venue is amazing! All the old stuff inside the Carl House makes the images more elegant. I don’t even know what they are called. But they are aging. I could be here all day and not run out of ideas. So many ideas, so little time!

Once we got to the Carl House, I quickly went to scout out the area. Being here for the first time, I didn’t know where to take the guys out. Also, at this point, Sydney had arrived too, so we had to make sure the Groom and Bride did not see each other.

After scouting, I head back inside to take some solo shots with the groom in the groom’s room. I like the old look of the background, so I decided to take those photos there. It was a bit darker, so natural light was not an option, and I had to bring out a flash.

I knew the girls were inside the Carl House, so I called Andrea to check the status because I wanted to take them outside to do some group shots. Luckily it all worked out because once I was done with boys group photos, the Sydney was ready for the first look.

I settled Michael at the location we discussed as an excellent first look spot. And then, we bought Sydney out to the same area, asking her to walk towards Michael and do her thing slowly.

Bridal party group photos were followed after the first look, and then time for rest before the ceremony began.

Reading Special Vows

Sydney and Michael decided to read their special vows instead of resting before the ceremony began. This, to me, was something new, as they had a particular way of they wanted it done.

They wanted a quiet spot where nobody was around, but I was unaware of any location until The Carl House member recommended us the hidden area that just passed our eyes. Tucked away in The Carl House’s back, a sweet gated door is surrounded by lush green brush and lavishing green grass.

I was blown away by this location, as I didn’t see it and would’ve never known about it until it was pointed out. This made a perfect location for the two love birds to reach their special vows they wrote just for each other.

Ceremony Coverage

The wedding ceremony was held outdoor behind the house. The tradition started very close to sunset, giving it the best natural lighting possible to take beautiful photos.

The altar for the ceremony has a darker background, making the lighter color of the bride and bridesmaid dress pop out. The ceremony lasts about 30 minutes, and off the start of the reception.

The Carl House turns their outside lights on right before the sunset, which gave a great ambient light mixed with natural light to create an epic exit for the bride and groom walking back to the reception location.

The Grand Entrance

Gossip was flowing after the wedding ceremony that the bride and groom were going to enter the reception area on the 2nd floor of The Carl House.

With so many ambient lights inside the reception area and a big entrance, I had to create something magical. I quickly set up one light on each side of the reception wall, pointing to the center.

Without anyone there to test the light, I was going by my gut, feeling that they will end up kissing when they make the entrance. And Sydney and Michael did exactly that. The light hit Michael more than Sydney, which is ok, but I rather have the bride be the subject more.

Final Thought

My only concern was that I wish they were getting ready at The Carl House instead of getting ready at the hotel. The Carl House has such a beautiful theme inside and outside to make some crazy beautiful images.

If your planning at The Carl House, not think twice. It’s a great place to say the “I do.” And you will have some beautiful images to remember the day.

Make sure you also check out my Beckridge Banquet Hall Wedding not too far from The Carl House. More modern and elegant theme compared to The Carl House theme.

And you know exactly know what to do if you are looking for a wedding photographer! All of our wedding packages come with two photographers to make sure we capture both sides of the stories.
