Months before this engagement proposal took place, Richard had contact me and asking if I was available and would be up for doing a real life engagement proposal. Usually I have done engagements that was already known to both parties.
Since this was something new, and Allie didn’t know about it, I thought heck ya. It would be cool to do a real life engagement proposal.
Richard told me that he wanted do the proposal in downtown Dahlonega, GA and when the lights came on. But Allie, couldn’t know! Make it seem so she’s has no idea what is going on.
Awesome, but we have one issue. It’s hard to get reaction shots without having some sort of light stand in place already. And if Allie, was to see the light stand she would know something is up. I had explained this to Richard, and suggested we do the engagement proposal twice; once during daytime to get the real reaction, and once during night.
Richard was very cool, and said he would make that work. Since they were coming from Florida, I asked him to let’s meetup the day off so we can plan where you should be so I can get the reaction.
It's time to propose
The day finally came when Richard was ready to propose to Allie. We set the stage for where to propose at early in the morning, and now I was walking around Dahlonega, GA looking like an FBI agent or spy dude. It felt so weird stalking someone and taking pictures. And I had a huge lens on, very noticeable to the public. Hiding in trees, trying to avoid line of sight.
I was not too worried about any of Richard’s friends seeing me, or Richard. But I was watching out for Allie, making sure she doesn’t see me. At one point I even thought she saw me, since I was directly in front of her when I took the shot below.
This was so funny, I told Richard where to stand and try to stay there early. So he was trying to get Allie to get to that spot, but he was having a hard time explaining to her why they are heading that way. I was too far away to actually get the details on what was going on, but eventually he made it work. Below are the shots we got from this.
Time for an Engagement Session!
At this point, Allie saw me for the first time. I think I came in too early, because she was still shocked from the proposal haha. But we introduce our-self and asked if you are ready to take some engagement photos!
Downtown Dahlonega, GA was not the best spot for this session so I suggest we head to local park, Yahoola Creek Park. It was close, had some great location and let’s just go there. We can come back later at night time to get some more shots with the christmas lights.
Back to Dahlonega, GA Square
At this point it started to get dark, and I already had plenty of shots of them in the park. So, we headed back to Dahlonega, GA Square to get some shots during the christmas lights. To my surprise it was rather a difficult task, because it was busy. Trying to get a spot just for them was tough without people photo bombing it.
This session didn’t last too long as Allie’s son was getting tired and we had to call it off. But I couldn’t went on for a few more hours and try to be more creative. But in all, I had an amazing time, and both Allie & Richard loved the shots. Their story was even published on the knot!
